I am grieving so deeply these days. My left hip socket was severely damaged by cancer, it was rebuilt, and cancer was removed last December. It dislocated and I had a redo surgery in early August. It has dislocated again. I will be having another surgery next week.
I’m also grieving for the social and political state of our country. By its nature, change is disruptive. Still, it feels hard to be in the midst of such dramatic upheaval, especially during a pandemic. I feel sad and yet grateful that change is happening!
Grief has many faces. Sometimes I get angry and frustrated, ways grief is expressed indirectly. Staying busy is also a way of not addressing grief directly. I’ve been so focused on getting ready for surgery that I haven’t felt down into the grief I’ve been avoiding. Today I finally did and cried. The cancer process is making me slow down, address my feelings and open up more to living each moment. Not easy, but good. I’m wanting to engage in life directly. I want to live in the present and let my joyful self shine. That is a spiritual practice now.
