Fun Tripping!
Our Cancun vacation was meant to be relaxing and fun. Some of it was, and it was also stressful! I know a little Spanish but not enough to ask questions, except “Donde esta el baño?” And when I got to the baños/bathrooms at several of the ruins, there were boys blocking the doors demanding payment to let anyone in. At the gas station there was a man impatiently waiting for his tip before he would pump the gas. We only understood what was happening when he grabbed many pesos from John’s hand then started pumping. We didn’t get any change. Truckloads of workers whooped it up while driving on the wrong side of the road to get to a side street. There were speed bumps on the freeway. The road signs were confusing. There were teenagers with guns in uniform, apparently part of the local militia, patrolling the beaches. All little things, but shocking to me because they are so out of my normal culture. And the land felt unsettling to me. I was nervous and woozy a lot of the time. This happened before I had formulated the Calm Centered Clear and Electrical System Integration Blends. Wish I’d had them then. Lately trips to unfamiliar – and familiar – places are easier and more pleasant.
